LASER TATTOO REMOVAL
The PicoWay is an advanced picosecond laser system that breaks down the tattoo particles into smaller pieces, allowing the body’s own immune system to remove them. After each laser tattoo removal treatment, the treated area should begin to fade as the smaller ink particles are removed by the immune system.
At our Perth clinic, we use the PicoWay laser for tattoo removal, which uses ultra short pulse times and targeted wavelengths to make treatment more efficient, more comfortable, and with less risk of complications than nanosecond (Q-Switch) devices. This means you will not only recover faster in between treatments, but you can have treatments more frequently and have your tattoo regret gone sooner.

Benefits of tattoo removal
Although many people are happy with their decision to get a tattoo, others may change their minds months or years later. A person may wish to fade or remove their tattoos for many reasons, whether due to a poor design by a tattoo artist, their tattoo ink has faded or bled over time, to make way for new ink, or in relation to future plans or events. Some people may have simply outgrown their past decision and no longer want their tattoos.
If you are not happy with your tattoo, laser tattoo removal can help to remove unwanted ink, destroying the ink particles to restore your natural skin colour. The advanced PicoWay laser gets rid of tattoos with a shorter recovery time compared to other lasers. The laser can also remove green and blue colours, which can be harder or impossible to remove with other laser tattoo removal machines. With the PicoWay laser, we can accurately remove:
- Both small and large pieces
- Any shape, size or colour tattoo
- Bands or rings around the fingers, arms, or legs
- Detailed designs
- Words, names, and symbols
- Entire tattoos or sections of tattoos with a high level of accuracy
- Fade a tattoo prior to having cover up tattoo work completed
Who is a good candidate?
A good candidate for this procedure is someone who wishes to fade or remove a permanent tattoo, whether due to a poor outcome or a change in aesthetic ideals. We advise booking a consultation in order to find out whether you are suitable and what outcomes you can expect. We will go over certain things to ensure we can meet your needs, such as:
- Your health and medical history
- Your skin tone and condition
- The size, position, and colour of the tattoo
- Any past laser removal treatments
- Your expectations and goals
One of our experienced practitioners will assess these factors and determine whether you are suitable for tattoo laser removal.
COSMETIC LASER TATTOO REMOVAL
How does the PicoWay laser tattoo removal process work?
The PicoWay laser actively targets the ink particles in the dermis. Due to its true ‘picosecond’ technology, the PicoWay Laser fires at a rate 1,000 times faster than nanosecond lasers. This causes a photo-acoustic effect, causing the particle to vibrate and crack or shatter, resulting in much smaller pieces of ink, which are then able to be consumed by macrophages, the major player in our body’s immune system. Some particles undergo a thermochemical reaction which causes them to lose their colour.
Using various spectral frequencies, thanks to our gold standard laser machines, we are able to treat almost any colour ink on any skin type. Only white ink and ink which ‘glows in the dark’ cannot be treated.
Laser tattoo removal cost in Perth
Costs are dependent on the patient and their unique treatment plan. We will need to consider the size and colour of the tattoo, as well as the likely duration of the treatment session. These things can impact the overall cost. For example, coloured inks may require more sessions, and longer session times to remove. A tattoo that is large or located in difficult areas may also require a more extensive procedure and therefore may cost more.
Another factor to consider is the number of treatment sessions we will require in order to completely remove the tattoo. We will provide a written quote before your treatment.
Laser tattoo removal aftercare
When you leave the clinic, we will ensure you are informed on how to care for your treated area. There are some general care instructions that you will need to follow, such as:
- Apply an icepack for 10 minutes every hour on the day of treatment to the area
- Use the post-laser gel we will recommend at your intial consultation whenever you use the icepack and anytime you feel it may assist with minor symptoms.
- Use an SFF 30 or better sunscreen on the area for 5 days following treatment.
- Avoid direct, exposure to sunlight for 5 days following treatment.void hot water on the treated area for 2 days following treatment.
- Avoid vigorous exercise for 2 days following treatment.
- If your tattoo is on your arm or leg, elevating the tattoo may also help to reduce any swelling
Risks & complications
After your laser tattoo removal, your skin may have some redness, and the area may feel warm. Swelling and bruising are also common after treatment, especially if your tattoo was large or in a sensitive area. These side effects are expected and should resolve on their own within a couple of weeks.
Severe side effects are rare, such as infection, scarring, or loss of the normal underlaying skin colour. Following the post treatment guielines will ease recovery and help you avoid any risks. If you are concerned about the effects of your treatment, please contact the clinic and we will advise you further.
How many tattoo removal treatments will I need?
Many factors will impact the number of treatments you will require. We will consider factors such as the placement, colour, type, size, and age of the tattoo. We encourage anyone considering having a tattoo removed to book in with us for a consultation with one of our experienced practitioners.
During the consult, you will have the tattoo removal process explained and you will receive a signed quote for each treatment, prior to your first treatment. The number of sessions required can vary greatly from person to person and is hard to predict prior to undergoing any treatment sessions. Some may require only a handful of treatments, while most require upwards of 8 or more sessions to remove tattoos.
